Astrophytum asterias ‘Superkabuto’ is a rare and highly prized cultivar of the Star Cactus, known for its stunning pattern of dense white speckling or “felting” across the surface of its smooth, rounded body. Native to northeastern Mexico and southern Texas, this spineless cactus has a flat, disc-like shape with 8 distinct ribs and often forms a symmetrical star-like pattern from above.

‘Superkabuto’ is especially loved by collectors for its ornamental beauty, slow growth, and compact size. In the right conditions, it produces large, yellow, daisy-like flowers with an orange center that bloom from the crown of the plant during the warmer months.

Care Requirements:

• Light: Bright, indirect light to full sun. Avoid intense midday sun in very hot climates.
• Water: Water sparingly. Allow the soil to dry completely between waterings. Reduce watering in winter.
• Soil: Requires very well-draining cactus soil. A mineral-rich, gritty mix is ideal.
• Temperature: Prefers temperatures above 50°F (10°C). Hardy in USDA zones 9–11. Protect from frost.
• Growth Habit: Slow-growing, solitary, and compact—typically stays under 2–3 inches tall and wide.
