Mammillaria elongata ‘Ladyfinger cactus’, Live plant, cactus

Description

DESCRIPTION
You will receive a plant approximately the size of a 4" pot, similar to the ones shown in the photos. This item will be shipped bare-root or in its original plastic pot, whichever is better for the plant. We handpick each order and ensure all plants are healthy before shipping.

Mammillaria elongata, commonly known as the Ladyfinger Cactus, is a charming, low-growing cactus native to central Mexico. It forms dense clusters of slender, cylindrical stems covered in small, golden or white spines that give the plant a soft, lacy appearance—hence the name "Gold Lace Cactus."

This species is especially popular for its unique form and ease of care. In spring, it may produce small, creamy white to pale pink flowers that form a ring near the top of the stems. Over time, the plant creates a mound of finger-like stems that cascade beautifully in containers or rock gardens.

Care Requirements:

  • Light: Full sun to partial shade; prefers bright, indirect light indoors.
  • Water: Water sparingly. Allow soil to dry completely between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot.
  • Soil: Well-draining cactus/succulent mix is essential.
  • Temperature: Hardy in USDA zones 9–11. Protect from frost; ideal temperature is above 50°F (10°C).
  • Growth Habit: Clumping, mounding cactus that stays compact—ideal for containers or windowsills.

Special Features:

  • Attractive golden or white spines
  • Drought-tolerant and easy to care for
  • Great for beginners and collectors alike
