DESCRIPTION

This listing is for ONE unrooted cutting. The cutting is approximately 12 inches long, unless otherwise stated. Due to the natural variation in live plants, the cutting you receive may look slightly different from the photos. Most cuttings are freshly cut to order and will be taken from the mother plant just prior to shipping.

Thai Golden was acquired from Southern California in 2020. While this variety appears to be self-fertile, further testing is needed to confirm, as this is Mayumi Garden’s first fruiting season.

Thai Golden produces white flowers, and the fruit closely resembles ISIS Gold and Aussie Gold in appearance. Fruits typically weigh between 1 to 1.5 lbs and have a sweet melon-lemonade flavor, reported to be sweeter than both ISIS Gold and Aussie Gold. The first fruit tested at 16° Brix, though we believe it can reach up to 18° under optimal growing conditions.

So far, this is one of the best yellow-skinned, white-fleshed varieties in our collection. It also shows good cold tolerance here in Northern California.

Policies:

By purchasing grafted or rooted plants from our shop, buyers agree to the following terms:

  • Once the plant leaves our care, we cannot control shipping conditions. The buyer is responsible for filing claims with USPS for lost or damaged packages. Each shipment is insured up to $100. Additional insurance is available upon request.
  • All grafts are well-established and securely connected to their rootstock. If breakage occurs during transit due to rough handling, the buyer must file a claim with USPS.
  • All sales are final. Plants are non-returnable and non-refundable.

Planting Instructions:

Upon receiving your package, it's important to gradually acclimate both cuttings and rooted plants to their new environment.

For Cuttings:

  • Allow 4–7 days for the cut end to dry and callus before planting to prevent rot.
  • Disinfect the cut end using an organic fungicide like GrowSafe, especially in cool temperatures.
  • Keep the cutting in shade until it has rooted. You can check by gently tugging.
  • New growth may appear before rooting is complete, so always double-check.
  • Once rooted, gradually expose the plant to partial sun, then transition to full sun, avoiding direct sunlight at first.

For Rooted Plants:

  • Gradually acclimate to partial sun, then full sun over 1–2 weeks.
  • In hot climates (above 95°F), use 30–40% shade cloth to prevent sunburn.
  • Avoid placing plants near cement or reflective surfaces, which can intensify heat and cause damage.

Growing Conditions:

  • Dragon fruit thrives in tropical and subtropical climates like Hawaii, Florida, and Southern California.
  • In colder climates, protect young plants with a greenhouse in winter and shade cloth in summer.
  • Mature plants (3+ years old) can tolerate more extreme weather but may still require protection below 30°F.

Soil & Watering:

  • Use well-draining soil, starting with a cactus mix. As you gain experience, you can customize your mix with perlite, chicken manure, potting soil, and compost.
  • Dragon fruit prefers full sun, but provide protection during extremely hot conditions.
  • Water only when the top 2 inches of soil are dry. Avoid waterlogging to prevent root rot.
  • In cold weather, water sparingly or not at all, unless the plant is grown in a greenhouse.

Fertilization:

  • Apply chicken manure monthly during the growing season.
  • Fish fertilizer is another option, though it may have a strong odor.
  • Use a bloom booster on mature plants to encourage flowering and fruiting.
